The winery is located at Rentsch in the municipality of Bolzano in the Italian wine-growing area South-Tirol
(Region Trentino-Alto Adige
). It has been family owned since 1893. Since 2008, the wines are bottled themselves. From the vintage 2014, the vinification takes place in the newly built cellar. The company is managed by Hildegard Egger Spögler, son Hans Jochen and Eduard Spögler. The vineyards cover five hectares of vines, which are planted with the various varieties of the variety Vernatsch (gray, small, central, Großvernatsch), Merlot and Lagrein, and Ruländer. It is partly about 70 years old (Grauvernatsch) and even 80-year-old vines (Lagrein) in Doppelpergel education
, as well as younger vines in modern trellis plants.
The vineyards are managed conventionally, but in an environmentally friendly, natural way. There will be no herbicides
used. The product range includes various South Tyrol
DOC wines, such as Pinot Grigio, Lagrein Kretzer, Grauvernatsch, St. Magdalener "classico"
, Lagrein and Merlot. The premium wines include Lagrein Riserva "Rivelaun" and Merlot-Lagrein "Justinus", both aged for 12 months in oak tonneaux. Every year around 25,000 bottles of wine are produced. However, this can be increased because a part of the grapes is still delivered to a winery. The winery is a member of Free winegrowers South Tyrol
and South Tyrolean Wine Route.
