2004 Douro DOC Quinta Vale D. Maria, Douro, Portugal

Slightly overripe notes of black berries and plums on the nose, tart, light malted notes and bread, smoky oak and licorice. Concentrated and quite juicy on the palate, prominent oak, quite fine, but still dusty and astringent tannins, cocoa and some coffee, very persistent, full-bodied and very creamy, still young, good depth, oak-dominated finish, quite long but by no means charming.
