By far the biggest appellation in the winegrowing region Roussillon that the entire département Pyrenees-Orientales includes. The vineyards yield 8,800 hectares of vineyards in 125 communities. Red wine and rosé must be blended from at least two main varieties and a minor variety. The main varieties are Carignan (maximum 60%), Grenache Noir, Llladoner Pelut and Cinsaut. The minor varieties Syrah, Mourvèdre and Macabéo may make up a maximum of 20%. The white wine consists of Macabéo, Malvoisie de Roussillon (Tourbat), Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Rolle and Tourbat.
