The estate is located in the municipality of Gratallops in the Spanish DOCa area Priorato (Catalonia). It was founded in 1989 by the biology professor José Luis Pérez i Verdú. He worked as a young man in Switzerland as a hairdresser and taxi driver to finance his studies. Today he is a full time professor of enology at the University of Tarragona, Pérez is considered the real founder of the great success in the field. He was the mentor and advisor to the other young winemakers who caused a sensation in the late 1980s. There were notable joint ventures with the two producers Cims de Porrera and Vall-Llach, In the Spanish gourmet magazine "Sibaritas", Pérez was voted "hombre del año" (man of the year) for his life's work in 2005. Today the Mas Martinet estate is managed by his daughter Sara Pérez.

The vineyards cover 15 hectares of vineyards, which according to the professor's knowledge are managed organically. The ancient to over hundred year old indigenous varieties Carineña and Garnatxa, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah are cultivated. The optimal reading time is determined according to scientific methods, with manual reading taking place in several passes. There is relatively little information about the vinification and the expansion of the wines in the cellar. The wines are stored in French barriques for two years, are refined with protein, but not filtered. The flagship of the house is the Priorato red wine "Clos Martinet", a cuvée of all the varieties listed above. The second wine is called "Martinet Bru". In small quantities, experimentally pure red wines are made using the technology of micro-oxygenation produced.
