2005 Barolo DOCG Vigneto Gattera, Piedmont, Italy

Ripe, preserved red berries and some plums on the nose, hint of chestnuts. spicy tobacco, dried flowers, some candied cherries and mineral traces. Juicy on the palate, some more light floral notes, ripe fruit, fairly prominent oak, sweetish spice, particularly anise, hint of coconut, quite prominent, fine and slightly astringent tannins, opens up with aeration, becomes more elegant and juicy, very good depth and persistence, very good long finish. Needs time to develop.

Best to drink: 2012-2020+. What our ratings mean
