The estate is located in the municipality of Ceglo in the Goriska Brda wine-growing area in the Slovenian wine-growing region Primorska right on the Italian border. It has been owned by the Kristanèiè family since 1820. The Movia tradition was never interrupted, not even in the difficult times under socialist Yugoslavia, thanks to Father Mirko (born 1930) it was the only private wine producer. From 1949 to 1971, the company was the only official wine supplier for the state protocol or state banquets and for President Josip Broz Tito (1892-1980). The tradition of the house was continued by son Ales (born 1966), who obtained his diploma after studying in Slovenia at the enology school in Veneto and in the wineries Château Petrus and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti practiced. Ales Kristanèiè is a Slovenian star winemaker and advocate of modern wine style, based on local traditions, and was the first in Slovenia to start barrel aging. The vineyards cover a total of 22 hectares, 14 of which are in Goriška Brda and 8 above the border on the Italian side in the DOC area Collio Goriziano, Particular attention is also paid to the cultivation of indigenous grape varieties.

The official conversion phase for certification as an organic winery has been running for the winery since 2005. But since 1989 all wines have been after biodynamic Principles. Movia is a member of the organic association La Renaissance des Appellations, The vineyards are divided into three groups with young and old vines and the cru locations. The wines are produced in three lines. The classic wines are called Vila Marija. The white wines are aged in stainless steel, the red wines in oak barrels with a volume of 2,500 liters. The bottles with the silver Movia label contain wines from specially selected individual layers. The black Movia label identifies top-quality wines from the cru locations, which are aged in barriques. Around 100,000 to 120,000 bottles of wine are produced annually, of which around 80% are exported to Germany, the USA, Japan, Italy, Croatia and Australia, among others. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and grape brandies are also produced.
