The estate is located in the municipality of Chiuro (province of Sondrio) in the Valtellina area in the Italian region Lombardy, It was founded in 1897 by Nino Negri. Today it belongs to the "Gruppo Italiano Vini SpA" company, which is owned by a total of 15 wineries. As managing director and oenologist is responsible for Danilo Drocco. The terraced Vineyards cover a total of 155 hectares of vineyards on sandy, silty and very water-permeable soils. They are mainly with the red wine variety Nebbiolo (here called Chiavennasca), as well as the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon ( Sauvignon Blanc ), Riesling Renano ( Riesling ), Moscato Bianco ( Muscat Blanc ) and Gewurztraminer ( Gewurztraminer ) planted.
The basement is in the basement of the old Chiuro castle, which has existed since the Middle Ages. There are 1,500 here from French and American oak, stainless steel tanks, as well as traditional wooden barrels in over 100 different sizes. The house’s premium wines are the DOCG red wine Sforzato di Valtellina “Sfursat 5 Stelle” (5 stars) from dried grapes (Chiavennasca; 12 months in wooden barrels), the DOCG red wine Valtellina Superiore "Sassella Le Tense" ((Chiavennasca; 12 months in wooden barrels) and the IGT - White wine Alpi Retiche "Ca'Brione" (Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Chiavennasca; fermented in barriques). The product range also includes the after Metodo classico produced Spumante "Cuvée Negri". 600,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. 75% of these are sold in Italy and 25% are exported to Germany, Switzerland and the USA.
