The sparkling wine house is located in the historic centre of the municipality of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (Barcelona province) in the Spanish region of Catalonia. It was founded in 1924 by Josep Mata Capellades with the construction of a cellar directly under his house. He named the company after his father Recaredo Mata Figueres, who was born into a family of potters in 1878. He pioneered the production of long-aged Brutnature sparkling wines using oak barrels in the production of the base wines. The entire production process is carried out in the areas of Quality Assurance, Health & Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility and is supported, audited and certified by the inspection, classification and certification society Bureau Veritas.
The vineyards are located in the DO area of Penedès and cover 80 hectares. The varieties cultivated are Xarello, Macabeo, Parellada and Monastrell. The biodynamic cultivation of the vineyards is carried out according to the rules of the organic association DEMETER, which are certified by CCPAE (Consell Català de la Producció Agrària Ecològica). This ensures the balance in the ecosystem and the promotion of biodiversity (biological diversity). This includes the exclusive use of natural means with complete renunciation of chemical fertilisers as well as herbicides and fungicides.
Since January 2019, Recaredo bottles have been labelled under the European Union Community trademark CORPINNAT (meaning "born in the heart of the Penedès"). The sparkling wines mature for at least two and a half to 20 years in the darkness of the cellar. As early as 1955, an important decision was made regarding product quality. Instead of the crown corks that had just been introduced, natural corks are used for all wines during bottle ageing and manual disgorgement is maintained. The wide range of products includes among others the all brut-nature (without shipping dosage = sugar) many years matured "Reserva Particular" (2 thirds Macabeo, 1 third Xarello), "Serral del Vell" (87% Xarello, 13% Macabeo) "Subtil" (100% Xarello), "Terrers" (65% Xarello 18% Macabeo, 17% Parellada) and "Intens Rosat" (100% Monastrell). Honey, tea (from Xarello and Mediterranean herbs, certified organic) and olive oil are also produced.
