The wines keep constant high level and are usually the best in their respective category in the area. Weaknesses, there is little, but can occur in difficult vintages. However, this must be balanced in good years with particularly compelling assortments so that an operation can hold the status. In most cases you can blindly buy.

The estate is located in the municipality Seefeld-Kadolz in Pulkautal on the border Czech Republic in the Lower Austrian winegrowing area Weinviertel, Viticulture was already practiced on the vineyards in the 16th century, the Hofkeller still in use today dates back to 1640. The name Hardegg presumably goes back to the Bavarian nobleman Luitold II, who in the early 12th century brought Hardegg Castle to the so-called " built "hard corner" of the river Thaya. After that, the county changed hands several times and went to the Habsburgs. Emperor Maximilian I (1459-1519) sold it according to document of March 28, 1495 to Heinrich Prueschenk, a direct ancestor of today's Hardegg family. Today, the winery is owned by Dipl. Ing. Maximilian Hardegg, who lives the almost 400-year-old family tradition of winemaking and sustainable management continues. As operations manager Andreas Gruber is responsible.

The vineyards cover 41 hectares of vineyards on sandy rocky soils of marine origin with a high lime content. They are with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner (45%), Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and unique in Austria Viognier, as well as the red varieties Pinot Noir, Merlot, Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah planted. Since the year 2006 Biodynamic viticulture operated. The musts are fermented spontaneously with vineyard-owned yeasts. On the addition of enzymes. fining, as well as the use of technical enrichment methods is generally waived. The expansion traditionally takes place in 1,200 to 4,000 liter wooden barrels. The basic wine lines are Veltlinsky, (Grüner Veltliner, "Wines from the Castle" and the terroir-stressed vineyard reserves of the 14-hectare Ried Steinbügel.) Specialties are the white wine "V" from Viognier, as well as the "Forticus" from Merlot in the style of a vintage port Every year, around 250,000 bottles of wine are produced and the winery is a member of the Premium wineries Weinviertel,
