The wines keep constant high level and are usually the best in their respective category in the area. Weaknesses, there is little, but can occur in difficult vintages. However, this must be balanced in good years with particularly compelling assortments so that an operation can hold the status. In most cases you can blindly buy.

Today's teaching and experimental farm is located in the town of Oppenheim (Nierstein area) in the German wine-growing region Rheinhessen, The Weinbaudomäne was founded in 1900 by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse and the Rhine (1868-1937) and then covered 83 hectares. Already in 1895, on his initiative, the Grand Ducal fruit and wine school based in Oppenheim. The first director from 1902 to 1933 was Heinrich Fuhr (1870-1958). In 1907, this German wine-growing pioneer founded a vine-protection service, which became a model for all German cultivation areas. It was begun with large-scale propagation of American underlay vines and the famous document SO 4 created. This developed in the episode to one of the most popular Unterlagsreben in German viticulture. Furthermore, improved winemaking techniques were introduced. In 1976, the areas of the dissolved viticulture domain administration were in Mainz accepted. Finally, in 1992, it came to the merger of the former state vineyard and the former wine-growing domain to the present wine-growing domain Oppenheim. Since the year 2000 the domain is headed by Otto Schätzel; Administrator is Gunter Schenkel, butler is Thorsten Eller.

The vineyards today comprise about 23 hectares of vineyards in the layers Glöck - in sole ownership, Mount of Olives and Pettenthal (Nierstein) Herrenberg and Sackträger (Oppenheim), as well Rothenberg (Nackenheim). They are 80% of the white varieties Riesling (this occupies almost half with 11 ha), Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, and to 20% with the red varieties Pinot Noir, Portuguese, St. Laurent, Regent and Cabernet Dorio planted. It is practiced environmentally friendly cultivation according to the VDP guidelines. The long-term average yield is 75 hl / ha. The white wines are cold fermented and aged in stainless steel to 50% dry. About one third are predicate wines; In suitable years also noble sweet specialties are pressed. The red wines are traditionally aged in large oak barrels and partly in oak barrels. Every year around 150,000 bottles of wine are produced. Bottle-fermented sects are also created. The winegrowing domain Oppenheim is a member of VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter).
