The institute in Bad Kreuznach in the German growing area Near was established in 1900 as a teaching and experimental farm of the Prussian Provinziallehranstalt for the training of winemakers and young winegrowers. Out of this went the "State Wine Estate Bad Kreuznach" owned by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which today is headed by Rudolf Schunck. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers forest, Hinkelstein. Kahlenberg and Vogelsang (Kreuznach), as well as Kafels (Norheim). They are planted with the white varieties Riesling (50%), Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Scheurebe and Gewürztraminer, and the red varieties Pinot Noir, Frühburgunder, Portuguese, Dornfelder, Domina, Regent and Black Riesling. At the institute, the winemaking processes were accompanied by controlled fermentation and fermentation interruption to produce sweet-and-sweet wines, both under pressure of fermented carbonic acid. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and brandies (wine, yeast, pomace) are also produced. In the so-called treasury store wines back to the 1920s.
