The estate is located in the municipality of Freiburg (area Breisgau) in the German wine-growing region to bathe, It is a establishment of the State Wine Institute founded in 1997 (then under the name "Staatsweingut Freiburg & Blankenhornsberg") Freiburg and is affiliated to the Ministry of Food and Rural Areas Baden-Württemberg. But the origin goes back to the year 1842. The company serves the scientists of the institute as experimental food. The aim is to further strengthen the competitiveness of the Austrian wine industry through research and development and to help shape the future of viticulture. The manor house is located in the center of the Blankenhornsberger doctoral garden. The managing directors are Bernhard Huber and Kolja Bitzenhofer, and the cellar masters are Mr. Isele and Mr. Scheffelt.

The vineyards cover a total of about 38 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers Jesuitenschloss, Lorettoberg and Schlossberg (Freiburg), and doctoral garden (Blankenhornsberg). The latter two layers are in sole ownership. They are with the white wine varieties Riesling. Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc ( Pinot Blanc ), Pinot Gris ( Pinot Gris ), Gutedel ( Chasselas ) Bacchus. Gewurztraminer. Kerner. Chardonnay. muscatel. Muscat Ottonel. Sylvaner and Scheurebe, as well as Pinot Noir ( Pinot Noir ) planted. On Organic viticulture Partially follows the guidelines of ECOVIN, As a special feature you can take over the sponsorship of a vine. Depending on the desired type of wine, the wines are traditionally aged in large oak casks, barriques or stainless steel tanks in the vaulted cellar built in 1847. It will also produce a bottle fermented sparkling wine. The winery is a member of VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) and in the Ökoverband ECOVIN,
