The Sicilian winery, based in Sclafani Bagni in the province of Palermo, was founded in 1830. At that time, the two brothers Don Lucio and Don Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca acquired the former fief Regaleali with approximately 1,200 hectares of land. The property was managed by Lucio Baron Tasca, one of the agricultural pioneers Sicily
counts. Under the guidance of his grandson, Count Tasca of Almerita (+1892), Regaleali's wine became known far beyond its borders. His son Lucio Count Tasca Bordonaro enlarged the property and tripled the vineyards. As a result of an agricultural reform, the property was finally reduced to 500 hectares. From 1957, Giuseppe Graf Tasca took over the responsibility and devoted himself to the viticulture with numerous innovations. Among other things, the espalier form never used here for grape musts was introduced. Today, the company is managed by his son Conte Lucio Tasca. In 1999, a state-of-the-art wine cellar was put into operation. There are antique resin-coated cement basins, stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels from Slavonia, Allier and Tronçais. The barrique barrels have a volume of 350 liters (compared to the usual 225).
The vineyards cover 500 hectares of vineyards. The oldest vineyard called "San Lucio" was born in 1959. It is the white varieties Catarratto (Bianco d'Alcamo), Chardonnay, Inzolia, Grecanico (here Varietà Tasca) and Pinot Bianco, and the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nerello Mascalese, Nero d'Avola, Perricone, Pinot Nero and Syrah cultivated. As a trial, but also forty Italian, Greek, Spanish and French varieties are grown. Three artificial lakes protect the vineyards from the hot sirocco bushes. The winery is mainly known by the IGT brand wine "Regaleali" (Royal). The "Regaleali Bianco" is blended from the varieties Inzolia, Catarratto and Sauvignon. The variants Rosso and Rosato are produced from Perricone and Nero d'Avola. The top products are "Nozze d'Oro" (Inzolia and Sauvignon Blanc) and "Rosso del Conte" (mainly Nero d'Avola). Every year around 2.3 million bottles of wine are produced. Around 40% of production is exported, mainly to Germany and the USA.
