2012 Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione "Riserva Ducale Oro", Tuscany, Italy

Smoky, leathery and cedar-woody nose, predominantly black berries and some cherries, dried vegetal and herbaceous notes, some black olives and earthy notes. Rather tart fruit with lots of cocoa-spicy wood, some tobacco and dried tomatoes, light acid bite, present, predominantly mature tannins, persistent, powerful and alcoholic on the palate, firm build, good depth, in the background dry herbs and salt, a hint of pomegranate, very good, with air increasingly juicy, chocolatey and spicy finish with clearly Havana tobacco and warming alcohol. Works a bit too modern and woody, but gains in character in terms of depth and depth in the hours after opening.
