2012 Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG Collenottolo, Umbria, Italy

Somewhat pungent, toasty, nutty-woody and reminiscent of dried and pickled red peppers with cocoa notes, pungent smoke, a little chilli and malted cereals with aromas of mixed berries and plums and increasingly herbs with air. Rather tart, tight fruit, lots of peppers and cereals again, noticeable acid bite, bitterish nutty, woody and earthy tones, firm, fine sandy, still drying tannins, certain persistence and power, parsley, salt, some cola nut and hints of tar in the background, slightly rustic style, very good, only a little brittle finish, again with bite
