Editor note: Nose initially appears mature, mineral notes, reminiscent of lovage and licorice, notes of berry preserves and some tar; gains significantly in depth and freshness with aeration, then presents ample fruit and strongly present mineral notes. In the mouth, initially appears mature and elegant, complex and well integrated on the palate, sweetish extract and oak, spices, coffee, berry notes and some dried prunes, oak in the background, outstanding structure, the tremendous finish indicates that this wine is far from the end of its life. Restatsed again over several days, the wine continued to improve, gaining tremendously in depth and length, becoming much more juicy; where almost all other wines of this vintage will collapse after two days, this exceptional wine continues to blossom, the length is truly fantastic. Together with many other wines, we followed the development of this wine over quite a few days, and re-tasted it repeatedly: with all its apparent lightness, Biondi-Santi Brunello develops a depth and complexity that is miles ahead of most of its competitors in terms of maturation potential and pure drinking enjoyment. Anybody who has not tasted this wine personally will find it difficult to believe how incredibly long the finish is. One of the great and unique wines of this appellation.
