DOC area for white, red and rose wines in the central east of the Italian region Tuscany, which is named after the homonymous municipality on the Livornese coast. The vineyard area of just under 200 hectares at the end of the 1990s now encompasses over 1,100 hectares around the town of Castagneto Carducci in the province of Livorno. It was named after the poet and literary historian Giosuè Carducci (1835-1907), who spent his childhood there. Bolgheri is a district eight kilometers north of it, to which the nature reserve Oasi di Bolgheri belongs. The best known and largest producers include Antinori and Gaja,
