2004 Barbaresco DOCG Gaiun Martinenga, Piedmont, Italy

Firm, tart and quite deep, somewhat tobacco aroma of red and black berries with dried planty aromas, a little peanut and Brazil nut, hints of capers and mineral notes. Firmly woven, tangy, surprisingly fresh fruit with present, fine tannins and noticeable acidity, salty mineral tones, tobacco and dark ethereal spice on the palate, persistent, lots of power but also finesse, herbal aromas, very good, firm, tangy and spicy finish with noticeable alcohol and bite at the same time.

Editor note: Partly preserved red berries on the nose, light vegetal notes, some wilted flowers and leaves, touch of spice and vanilla, light volatile and lactic notes. Red berries on the palate, spicy, slightly sweetish oak, delicate hint of plums, fairly creamy, polished, still slightly astringent tannins, good persistence, has some depth, reined-in strength, light lactic and volatile traces, very good finish.
