1997 D.O.Ca Rioja Reserva Barón de Oña, La Rioja, Spain

Brilliant garnet, significantly lighter on an orange-brown rim. Very deep and intense on the nose, nutty, spicy oak, undergrowth, mushrooms, dried dark fruit, some leather and wilted flowers, cool mineral notes. Firm in the mouth with good presence, cool fruit, strong mineral notes, oxidative note, lots of fine, fairly mellow tannins, powerful and persistent on the palate, excellent structure, smoky and roasted notes, again quite nutty, still youthful, delicate floral aromas on a long finish. Give it time to mature, will probably still improve with time.
