The estate is located in Saint-Emilion in the area of the same name (Bordeaux). In 1989, Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife Murielle Andraud bought a small parcel of 0.6 hectares Chateau Pavie-Macquin and Château La Clotte, The well-known star oenologist Michel gave advice Rolland, The first vintage was 1991. The vineyards were subsequently enlarged; in 1998 by buying the former Château Bel-Air Ouy in Saint-Etienne de Lisse. The winery becomes one of the most famous Garage wines produced. Thunevin is considered the inventor of these extreme requirements and thus perfectionistically produced wines, and his winery is an absolute top address. A special feature is that in 2012 the classification from "Grand Cru" to "Premier Grand Cru Classé B" was successful.

The vineyards cover a total of 15 hectares of vineyards. Nine hectares are with the red wine varieties Merlot (66%), Cabernet Franc (33%) and Malbec = Cot (1%) planted. But only a part of it from the best locations is used for the first wine. The 2000 vintage came from just 3.5 hectares and was assembled from Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%). The first secret of high quality is an extreme yield restriction, only six grapes grow on a vine. It is systematic Defoliation, as well as rigorous thin out, Any berries that are not 100% correct will be removed. It will be an optimal one physiological maturity waiting for the grapes.

For the first wine only the run juice is used (no pressing), in addition there is no beautiful and no filtration, Then the wine is aged for 18 to 22 months in 100% new barriques. In the 1995 and 1996 vintages there was even an expansion in 200% new oak. First it was malolactic fermentation carried out in 100% new barriques, then the Soutirage (Separation from the yeast set) and then a transfer into 100% new barriques. The wine that can be stored for decades has an extremely dark color, extremely dense extracts and distinctive tannins, The sale takes place exclusively in subscription, A bottle costs at least € 300. Older vintages are among them most expensive wines in the world,

The second wine is called "Virginie de Valandraud" and is named after the daughter. It is vinified in a similar way, but press wine is used. Other wines are called "Clos Baron Thunevin" (from 6.5 hectares of their own vineyards, each 50% Merlot and Cabernet Franc) and "L'Interdit de Valandraud" (like the first or second wine). The latter is produced on two hectares, the vineyards are covered with plastic sheeting to protect the roots from rain. The INAO however, has declassed it as a table wine. With "L'Interdit" (in German "The Forbidden One") Thunevin visibly humorously referred to the INAO decision or "protested" against it very pointedly. Since the 2001 vintage, too kosher red wine made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
