A large part of the wines in the French region Bordeaux
is under the comprehensive appellation "Bordeaux" (alcohol content at least 10% vol for red wine, 10.5% vol for white wine) or "Bordeaux Supérieur" (higher alcohol content with at least 10.5% vol for red wine and 11.5% vol for white wine). This applies to all wines that come from the official Bordeaux area, but do not have a defined place name. They must comply with all AC rules regarding grape varieties, yield, vinification etc. according to the area of origin and are also controlled.
