The winery "Viñedos Raïmat" is located in the Spanish DO Costers del Segre
, The DO was only on the initiative of the winery or the parent company Codorníu
1938 justified or classified. It was founded in 1914 by Manuel Raventós, who acquired a large, stony land area of 3,200 hectares with a dilapidated Castillo in the province of Lleida (Lérida). The name is derived from the Catalan terms "Raïm" (grape) and "mà" (hand). Although winegrowing had been practiced there for centuries, this was at the end of the 19th century by the Phylloxera disaster
been discontinued. Raventós realized that the Aragón Canal, built in 1910, would restore fertile land. In decades of painstaking work, the formerly desert-like and salty soil was cultivated for viticulture. Hundreds of acres of land were raised and a modern irrigation system created using the River Ebro and its tributaries. With the support of University of California
in Davis, the ideal grape varieties were determined. At the same time a village with 100 farmhouses, reservoirs and roads was built and workers settled. The bodega was commissioned in 1918 as the first reinforced concrete building in Spain. In 1930, about 300 hectares were planted with vines that produced 6,000 hectoliters of wine. Around 250 kilometers of canals and drainage systems made for a good artificial irrigation
In 1988, a state-of-the-art winery was built below a hill. The floor above this building was planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards today comprise 2,245 hectares of vineyards. There are mainly the native varieties Albariño, Macabeo, Xarel-Lo, Parellada and Tempranillo, as well as the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Colombard, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Malvasia, Pinot Noir, Moscatel Ruso, Merlot, Petite Shiraz and Muscat d'Alexandrie cultivated. For the expansion of the wines 15,000 oak barrels of French and American oak are available. In addition to the varietal Crianzas, a sparkling wine from Chardonnay and the white wine Cuvée Albariño-Chardonnay, the vineyard wines Abadía (Cuvée from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo) and Vallcorba (varietal from Cabernet Sauvignon) are worth mentioning. Every year, 5.5 million bottles of still wine and 1.5 million bottles Cava
produced. The winery is undisputedly one of the world's most innovative wine research centers due to its vast experience. The techniques used in the elaborate cultivation of vineyards and winemaking have required several years of experimentation and research.
