The winery is located in the community of Hattenheim in the German Rheingau wine region. In 1870, Balthasar Ress founded a business with an inn and his own vineyard in Hattenheim (today part of Eltville). In 1993 the new winery building "Rheinallee 50" was acquired. The old manor house at "Rheinallee 7" today offers an impressive setting for events of all kinds. The vinotheque is located in the new winery building. Today, the traditional business is managed in the fifth generation by Christian Ress, who together with Dirk Würtz completely turned the estate around. The vineyards cover 43 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations Berg Roseneck, Berg Rottland and Berg Schlossberg (Rüdesheim), Engelmannsberg, Nussbrunnen and Schützenhaus (Hattenheim), as well as Höllenberg (Assmannshausen). They are mainly planted with Riesling (40 ha), as well asPinot Noir and other varieties.
The wines are marketed in three lines according to the VDP classification model. Even Balthasar Ress used to offer specially selected wines as "Von Unserm". The winery still uses this brand today for special wines, bottle-fermented sparkling wines and spirits of the house that meet the highest quality standards. In the treasure chamber, wines dating back to the 1920 vintage are stored. Since June 2009, the winery has owned a 3,000 m² vineyard in the municipality of Keitum on the island of Sylt. It is the most northern vineyard in Germany. There, 500 Rivaner and 1,100 Solaris vines have been planted. Since the 2013 vintage, the first Schleswig-Holstein Landwein from Sylt has been produced, which is designated "55° North - Solaris/Rivaner" according to the latitude there. As a special feature, vine sponsorships can be concluded. The winery is a member of the VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter).
