2003 Südtirol / Alto Adige DOC Arzio, Alto Adige, Italy

Preserved black berries and some plums on the nose, prominent smoky, toasted, spicy oak, sooty notes, bitter dried herbs. Full-bodied. very ripe, creamy, sweetish jammy fruit on the palate, loads of oak, chocolate and dark caramel, ripe but also partly astringent tannins, some ripe, partly dried bell peppers in the background, spicy notes, very good persistence, has some depth, chocolate as well as sweet, jammy juicy notes on the finish.

Best to drink: Bis 2018+. What our ratings mean

Editor note: Tart black berry nose, some sour cherries and dried herbs with roasted and smoky notes. Ripe black fruit and lots of dark roasted oak, dark chocolate, some smoke, fine sandy tannins, astringent on the palate, full-bodied, creamy, has noticeable alcohol, good persistence, appears youthful, preserved dark fruit and roasted notes as well as chocolate on the finish.
