The winery is located in the municipality of Eppan (Appiano) on the South Tyrolean Wine Road in the Italian wine-growing region of South Ty rol ( Trentino-South Tyrol region). The Bergmannhof was first mentioned in documents in the 17th century and has been owned by the family since 1851. In 1978, the farm began marketing its own products. Today, the farm is run by the first and second generation of Josef Pichler and his sons Johannes and Benjamin. In addition to viticulture, fruit growing is also practised. According to the philosophy of the house, ecological responsibility is not limited to the work in the vineyard and in the cellar, but is holistic. The winery is certified by myclimate (CO2 compensation and climate protection consultancy). The vineyards cover four hectares of vines at 270 metres above sea level in the Huberfeld site, as well as in Gaid at 800 metres above sea level. They are planted with the red wine varieties Vernatsch, Lagrein, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc,Pinot Blanc and Manzoni Bianco. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural way with biological processes. This includes gentle pruning according to the Simonit & Sirch method and manual foliage care. Yields are reduced through targeted thinning out, and the quantities are well below the DOC regulations.
Through selective manual harvesting in several passes, only physiologically ripe, healthy grapes arrive for processing in small boxes. Cellar work is carried out according to the non-invasive principle of "as much as necessary, as little as possible". This includes low sulphurisation and the renunciation of unnecessary fining and filtration. The classic line includes wines made from Chardonnay, Vernatsch, Lagrein and Merlot, in which wood barrel ageing plays an important role. Specialities are the "Eart" cuvée (Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Manzoni Bianco), which is fermented on the skins and aged in a clay amphora, and the red wine "Hoamet" (Vernatsch), which is partly fermented spontaneously with the stems and bottled unfiltered after maturing for one and a half years in used Tonneau barrels. Other wines are the red wine cuvée "Kålch" (Cabernet Franc, Merlot), the red wine Lagrein Riserva "Karl" and the white wine Chardonnay Riserva "Lina". The winery is a member of the Free Winegrowers of South Tyrol, Eppan Wein, Konsortium Südtirol Wein and the climate neutrality alliance "turntozero".
