2016 Großheppach Wanne Syrah trocken SL, Klingenberg, Württemberg, Germany

Firm nose, prominent toasted notes, partly dried herbaceous and peppery notes, black berries and partly preserved cherries, hint of tobacco, violets, licorice and mineral traces. Tart, firm, dark fruit on the palate, toasted, slightly smoky, spicy oak, light acid bite, fairly prominent youthful, still slightly sandy tannins, persistent, spicy, prominent cocoa, some licorice in the background, noticeable warm alcohol, but also has cool ethereal notes, hint of citrus zests, not particularly deep, partly preserved fruit on a good to very good, fairly juicy finish. Painted with a broad stroke, but quite well made.
