2017 Essenheim Klopp Grauburgunder trocken, Rheinhessen, Germany

Onion-skin colour. Fairly cool, restrained nose, light nutty and delicate floral notes, hint of bacon, some dried herbs, fairly mature pomaceous fruit, hint of rhubarb, touch of dried mushrooms. Fairly firm, polished fruit on the palate, delicately sweetish and creamy, hint of onions and tobacco, very elegant, lively acidity, touch of spicy oak, some grip, clear contours, prominent ripe tannins, hint of red berries, concentrated and persistent, chalky mineral notes, touch of white pepper, very good, gripping, peppery, juicy finish with a touch of yellow spice.
