2005 Ihringen Winklerberg Chardonnay Spätlese trocken ***, Baden, Germany

Nutty and very slightly soapy oak on the nose, prominent caramel notes, ripe preserved yellow fruit. Creamy on the palate, candied and preserved fruit, more prominent nutty oak, slightly perfumed, elegant acidity, very full-bodied, slightly dissolute contours, mineral notes in the background, good to very good finish. Slightly past its peak, not really old yet, but the oak is now rather obtrusive.
