2009 Achkarren Schlossberg Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs trocken, Baden, Germany

Firm nose, black and red berries, spicy oak and tobacco, hint of bacon, dried herbs, cardamom, hint of cocoa, pepper and mineral notes. Tart, juicy, crisp, predominantly dark fruit on the palate, firm, slightly sandy tannins, noticeable acid bite, herbaceous aromas and some tobacco, toasted notes, persistent, good depth, complex, very salty, slightly bitter oak, peppery traces, still youthful, reined-in power, prominent salty mineral notes, citrus zests in the background, some coffee grounds, hint of tobacco, ethereal notes, still has some slightly rough tannins, elegant herbaceous notes on a long, juicy, firm finish that becomes more compelling with aeration.
