2001 trocken Cuvée Carolus, Pfalz, Germany

Strongly smoky, roasted aromas of blackcurrant, with plummy notes. Quite juicy fruit with attractive acidity, lots of well integrated wood, smoky and toasty, elegant tannins, powerful body with good structure, persistent, good finish that is dominated by oak, but opens up after aeration. Will improve further as the oak becomes more integrated.
