The winery is located in the municipality of Weinolsheim (Nierstein area) in the German wine-growing region of
Rheinhessen. The traditional family has been growing grapes here since 1625. Since 1994, the winery has been run by Eckehart and Angela Gröhl, the 12th generation of the family. In 2003, a new wine press house with a white wine and red wine cellar of a high quality standard was put into operation. A vinotheque is attached. The vineyards cover 20 hectares, mostly in the area of the
Rhine front. They are cultivated in the single vineyards Hohberg and Kehr (Weinolsheim), Bergkirche, Hölle and Pettenthal (Nierstein), Kranzberg (Dalheim), Aulenberg (Uelversheim), as well as
Herrenberg,
Sackträger and in sole ownership Schützenhütte (Oppenheim)
They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Silvaner and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is practised. The grapes, whose yields have been greatly reduced in order to improve quality, are processed gently. The wines are marketed in the following lines: Estate Wines (basic wines), Local Wines Hügelland (Dalheim), Site Wines Rheinfront and Site Wines Rheinfront Goldkapsel. In years with suitable weather conditions,
ice wines are also produced. In addition, bottle-fermented sparkling wines,
secco (sparkling wine), grape juice, grape liqueur and Riesling brandy are also produced
