The family Pieroth is already documentary since 1675 at the Near mentions and now operates in the tenth generation in the community Rümmelsheim-Burg Layen Bingen Viticulture. In 1906 Ferdinand Pieroth called in his diary viticulture as the main source of income of his farm. His son Philipp Ferdinand Pieroth bottled wine in 1926 for the first time in the history of the house. At the same time, wine was sent directly from the producer to the consumer. In 1953, the brothers Kuno and Elmar Pieroth (* 1934) for the first time in Germany developed a direct sales of wines. This resulted in the development of WIV Wein International AG.

The winery is run today by Katharina Pieroth, as operations manager Oliver Dries is responsible. The vineyards cover 25 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers Goldloch and Pittermännchen (Dorsheim) Pittersberg (Muenster), Schlossberg (Castle Layen) and in sole ownership Römerberg (Bingerbrück). The wines are bred with fermentation produced at constant temperatures and flavor-preserving long yeast storage. In addition to production in stainless steel tanks, dry Riesling wines are traditionally aged in old oak barrels. A small part of the white Burgundy wines are in fermented and ripened there for many months. Every year around 160,000 bottles of wine are produced.

With the idea to sell the winery wines no longer in barrel, but in the bottle, was founded by the brothers Pieroth the wine direct sales (with). From this developed the Weinhandelshaus "WIV Wein International AG" based in Burg Layen. The company is ranked number one in the wine magazine "Weinwirtschaft" in the top 100 in the category wine distributors. Today, around 5,400 employees worldwide work in 40 independent companies in 23 countries in Europe, Asia, North America, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Own wineries and wineries exist in Germany, France, Hungary and Australia. The core business is wine direct sales with around two thirds of sales. Other business areas are wholesale and specialist trade, logistics, trade fair construction, information technology and tourism. The family is represented at supervisory board level by Andreas Pieroth. In financial year 2014, there was a turnover of 545.3 million euros, of which 35% in Germany. The most important markets besides Germany are mainly Japan, Switzerland, France, Great Britain and Italy.
