The winery is located in the municipality of Forst in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz. It was founded in 1920 by Richard Mosbacher (1898-1977) together with his sisters, who named it after his father. Bottling was already carried out at this time, which was rather a rarity at the time. Richard II. Mosbacher built the estate into a top business in the 1980s. Today, the winery is managed by his daughter Sabine together with her husband Jürgen Düringer. The vineyards cover 22 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Freundstück, Jesuitengarten, Pechstein and Ungeheuer (Forst), Kieselberg, Leinhöhle and Mäushöhle (Deidesheim), as well as Gerümpel and Goldbächel (Wachenheim).

They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (with 80% the most important or leading variety),Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Merlot and Dornfelder. The vineyards are cultivated according to the rules of organic viticulture. The environmentally friendly measures include the renunciation of herbicides and thus the protection of beneficial insects, controlled fertilisation and cover crop. In addition to the premium wines, which are classified as Grosse Gewächse, there are a number of other single-vineyard Rieslings to choose from. Other grape varieties and a basic Riesling are marketed as estate wines. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and noble brandies (marc, yeast) are also produced. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates).
