The growing area is located in the country Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany and is named after the river of the same name. There are many preserved testimonies of the Romans who already cultivated wine here. The vineyards cover i4.237 hectares of vines along the river from Hunsrück to its mouth in the Rhine at Bingen. Near Bingen founded the Benedictine abbess Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) the monastery Rupertsberg. The soils consist of quartzite and schist at the lower Nahe, porphyry, melaphyr and Buntsandstein at the middle Nahe as well as weathered soils, sandstone, loess and loam near Bad Kreuznach.
