The winery in the Italian wine-growing region of South Tyrol (Trentino-South Tyrol region) was founded in 1977. It consists of two farms. The farm is located in the "Hausmannhof" above the municipality of Salurn (Salorno) in the Buchholz district. Later the "Obermairlhof" above Klausen in the Eisack valley was added. The farm is run by the Ochsenreiter family. The vineyards cover 12 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Tramin, Kurtatsch, Salurn and Klausen. They are planted with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Sylvaner and Riesling, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet. The environmentally friendly cultivation is carried out according to certified organic principles of organic viticulture with biodynamic methods. The annual controls are carried out by the organic control authority BIKO Tirol. Quality criteria in the vineyard are a gentle pruning that is gentle on the vines and strict grape selection.
The wines are produced in the three lines Hausmannhof, Obermairlhof and Selection under the DOC designations Eisacktaler and Südtiroler. The white wines are fermented slowly with the aim of achieving fruity aromas and are bottled only in the summer of the following year. The red wines are aged after open maceration in partly new and partly used barriques and bottled after 18 months. The wines Blauburgunder Riserva and Sauvignon Blanc Selection are marketed at the earliest two to three years after the grape harvest. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines with very long yeast ageing between 24 to 108 months are also produced. Around 90,000 bottles are produced annually. The winery is a member of the Free Winegrowers South Tyrol.
