The estate is located in the commune of Rüdesheim in the German wine-growing region Rheingau, The family has been involved in viticulture since 1744, but it was only in the 1950s that Josef Leitz specialized entirely in viticulture. After completing his training in Geisenheim, his grandson Johannes Leitz vinified his first wine in 1985. As a result, there was a considerable expansion of the vineyards. The vineyards cover 40 hectares, 36 of which are in Rüdesheim and 4 in Geisenheim. The most important individual layers are Kaisersteinfels mountain. Mount Roseneck. Mount Rottland. Schlossberg mountain, Bischofsberg, Drachenstein, Kirchenpfad, Klosterlay and Magdalenenkreuz (all Rüdesheim). They are planted exclusively with Riesling. The greatest attention is paid to the lowest yields and late harvest in order to produce wines with the highest quality grape material with an individual soil character. The fermentation takes place with natural yeast as well as with pure yeast. The dry top wines mature in wooden barrels, the fruity wines in steel tanks. The wines are stored for a long time and are bottled relatively late. The winery is a member of VDP (Association of German quality wine estates).
