The winery is located in the municipality of Rüdesheim in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. The family has been involved in viticulture since 1744, but only specialised in it in the 1950s. After completing his training in Geisenheim, his grandson Johannes Leitz vinified his first wine in 1985. Subsequently, there was a considerable expansion of the vineyards. The vineyards cover 40 hectares, 36 of which are in Rüdesheim and 4 in Geisenheim. The most important single vineyards are Berg Kaisersteinfels, Berg Roseneck, Berg Rottland, Berg Schlossberg,Bischofsberg, Drachenstein, Kirchenpfad, Klosterlay and Magdalenenkreuz (all Rüdesheim). They are planted exclusively with Riesling. The greatest attention is paid to lowest yields and late harvesting in order to produce wines with individual soil character using the highest quality grape material. Fermentation is carried out with both natural and pure yeasts. The dry top wines mature in traditional large wooden barrels, the fruity wines in stainless steel tanks. The wines are stored for a long time on the fine le es and are bottled relatively late. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates).
