The winery is located in the city Würzburg in the German growing region Franconia, It was built in 1576 by Prince Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn (1545-1617) after the model of the Hospices de Beaune founded. For this purpose, he acquired the “Judengarten” outside the old town. The prince-bishop provided his foundation with sufficient income and extensive property holdings during his lifetime to cover his tasks, which included vineyards, including in the world-famous Würzburg location stone, also extensive agricultural and forestry possessions belonged. To date, an old people's home, a hospice, two palliative care units, a nursing school and other welfare facilities are maintained. The foundation task of health care was taken over by the Würzburg Mitte Clinic in early 2017. The 250 meter long cellar aisle, created by Antonio Petrini in 1699, is the longest wooden barrel cellar in Germany and is lined with 220 oak barrels. There is the company's own wine shop "Weineck Julius Echter" opposite the main entrance of the Juliusspital. Dipl. Ing. Agr. Horst Kolesch is the administrator, Nicolas Frauer and Helmut Klüpfel the cellar master.

The vineyards cover around 180 hectares of vineyards and are spread all over Franconia in the following municipalities: Bürgstadt mit Main hell; Dettelbach with Mountain Rondell; Escherndorf with bounder; Iphofen with canon and Julius-Echter-Berg; Randersacker with Pfülben and Teufelskeller; Rödelsee with Küchenmeister; Thüngersheim with Johannisberg; Volkach with Carthusian; and Würzburg with Abtsleite, Fortress view in monopoly, Inner bar.
