2017 Nierstein Pettenthal Riesling Grosses Gewächs trocken, Rheinhessen, Germany

Nose still reductive and slightly restless, but also deep, compact and complex, mussel shells, yellow and some black fruit, prominent tobacco, herbs and some ginger, algae, oregano, iodine and lemon grass, floral traces, dark mineral notes. Very firm, fairly cool, concentrated, tart, juicy, very elegant fruit on the palate, firm, lively acidity, ripe tannins provide firm grip, persistent, deep and complex, still totally undeveloped, intense salty and slightly chalky mineral notes, reminiscent of mussel shells, hint of black berries in the background, tremendousy vibrant, lots of substance, but not heavy, elegant peppery notes, ethereal traces, more prominent oregano and red berries, particularly strawberries, long, gripping, tart, juicy, herbaceous, intensely minerally finish.
