2005 Ried Steinzeiler trocken, Burgenland, Austria

Firm, somewhat nutty and slightly toasty-woody aroma of ripe black berries with tobacco aromas, hints of red berries, dark spicy hints as well as a touch of pepper, black olives and tar. Firm and tangy in the mouth, dark fruit, smoky-roasty notes and again a little tar, lots of power, persistent, present tannin, bitter-chocolate and sooty tones, salt in the background, good depth, some alcohol warmth, very good, firm, grippy, tart finish.

Editor note: Very cool, intense, deep nose, blackcurrants and some sour cherries, prominent mineral and delicate herbaceous notes, hint of tobacco and some black olives. Very concentrated on the palate, still totally undeveloped, spicy oak, smoky notes and tobacco, almost salty mineral notes, very prominent, slightly dry tannins evenly distributed, prominent cedary notes, some dark chocolate, very persistent, deep, firm, long finish. An Austrian Latour, definitely needs time to mature.
