The estate is located in the Ilbesheim commune (Southern Wine Route area) in the German wine-growing region palatinate
, The traditional family has been wine-growing for many generations. The business is run by Boris Kranz and his wife Kerstin. It was largely due to his merit that after decades of effort the Ilbesheimer Kalmit
2008 was recognized as an official single location. The vineyards cover 17 hectares of vineyards. They are planted 60% with white wine and 40% with red wine. These are mainly Riesling, White Burgundy, Sylvaner, Auxerrois and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as Pinot Noir. The wines are produced in the three lines of site wines, estate wines and local wines. Some of the white wines are fermented cool after the maceration period and aged in steel tanks or large wooden barrels. The red wines mature in barriques. Fine brandies (various fruit brandies, yeast, grapes, pomace, cider) and bottle-fermented sparkling wines (Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé) are also produced. The winery has been a member of VDP
(Association of German quality wine estates).
