2006 Ried Ungerberg trocken, Burgenland, Austria

Fairly mature nose, ripe black berries, dried floral and herbaceous notes, hint of tobacco and dried meat, some toasted nuts, earthy notes, tarry traces. Tart dark fruit on the palate, prominent spicy oak, some cocoa and tobacco, fairly prominent sandy and slightly astringent tannins, persistent and full-bodied, fairly prominent toasted notes, earthy notes in the background, touch of dried mushrooms, elegant acid bite, herbs and peppery traces in the background, good grip, fairly firm structure, some depth, hint of ash on a very good tart, juicy, oaky finish.

Editor note: Quite a deep nose, partly preserved black and some red berries, cherries, prominent herbaceous notes, cool mineral notes in the background, light roasted notes and spicy oak. Clear, firm and fairly cool on the palate, elegant and juicy fruit, smoky and roasted oak, quite fine, still slightly astringent tannins, persistent, herbaceous and particularly mineral notes in the background, light acid bite, very good structure, long finish. Needs time to mature.
