The winery is located about two kilometres south of Ahrweiler in a side valley of the Ahr above the Kalvarienberg monastery in the German wine-growing region of Ahr. The roots of what was then called an excursion pub lie in the first half of the 20th century. The operators lived primarily from chicken and cattle breeding. Today, a wine tavern is attached. Since 2013, Alexander Weber, a qualified oenologist, has been the cellar master and Renate Günther the managing director.
The vineyards cover 9.5 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Burggarten and Kapellenberg (Heimersheim), Schieferley (Neuenahr), Daubhaus, Rosenthal, Silberberg and Ursulinengarten (Ahrweiler), Karlskopf, Steinkaul and Sonnenschein (Bachem), Alte Lay and Pfaffenberg (Walporzheim), Rosenberg (Marienthal), Burggarten, Hardtberg, Pfarrwingert and Schieferlay (Dernau), as well as Herrenberg (Rech). They are 70% planted with Pinot Noir, as well as Frühburgunder, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris).
Since 1999, the entire area has been cultivated according to the organic guidelines of the Bioland organic association. Through meticulous, selective hand harvesting, an extremely low yield of 25 hl/ha is achieved for the top wines. The product range is divided into the lines estate wines, local wines, site wines and treasury wines. The Pinot Noirs are vinified in a terroir-typical and mineral style. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and various noble brandies (yeast, marc, wine, fruit) are also produced.
