2000 Walporzheim Kräuterberg Spätburgunder trocken Versteigerungswein 2001, Ahr, Germany

Matt cherry to garnet red, lighter at the rim. Intense, complex and spicy bouquet of cherries, red berries, minerals and toasted wood. Dense, juicy, almost overripe fruit, lots of spicy oak notes, firm, finely-grained tannin, very firm structure, powerful, tremendous presence and persistence on the palate, again mineral notes, deep, gripping and very, very long. Pretty much unique for this vintage. Would probably be even better if a little less oak had been used.
