The winery is located in the municipality of Grünstadt-Asselheim (Mittelhaardt/Deutsche Weinstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz. It was founded in 1949 by Käthe and Georg Gaul and then taken over by daughter Inge and Bernd Triebel. After training as a winemaker, the business has been run by Michael Triebel, the third generation of the family, since 2014, with the support of his family. According to the winemaker's credo, the deep connection with nature, his roots and tradition are just as important to him as breaking new, creative ground in the cultivation and development of the wines. The winery's new logo combines a vine leaf with a modern version of one and is meant to symbolise tradition, progress and creativity.

The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Goldberg, Schloss and St. Stephan (Asselheim), as well as further areas in the Großlage Grafenstück (Bockenheim). 50% of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, and 50% with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Blauer Portugieser, St. Laurent, Merlot and Dornfelder. Special emphasis is placed on sustainability through controlled soil cultivation. It is a declared goal to produce terroir-emphasised, high-quality and long-lived wines through a lot of manual work, reduced yields and long ripening periods. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, in traditional large wooden bar rels or in barriques. In addition, bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
