The cultivation area with a vineyard of 557 hectares lies in the federal state Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany, Historically secured here is the wine growing attributable to the Franks from the 8th century. The cultivation area is after a western tributary of the Rhine named. The Ahr rises in the Eifel and flows south of Bonn in the Rhine.
