The wines keep constant high level and are usually the best in their respective category in the area. Weaknesses, there is little, but can occur in difficult vintages. However, this must be balanced in good years with particularly compelling assortments so that an operation can hold the status. In most cases you can blindly buy.

The estate is located on the southeastern outskirts of Johannisberg in the German growing area Rheingau, It was acquired in 1957 by Landgrave of Hesse for the Hessian house foundation with the then vineyard area of seven hectares. The trademark is the well-known coat of arms of the princes and landgraves of Hesse, the red-and-white striped lion of Heinrich I. The winery is today owned by Donatus Landgraf von Hessen (managing director of the Hessian house foundation) and its director. Clemens Kiefer performed. The greatly expanded vineyards now comprise 40 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers Klaus and Vogelsang (Johannisberg), Dachsberg, Gutenberg, Hasensprung and Jesuitengarten (Corner), Kläuserweg (Geisenheim), as well Sandgrub (Kiedrich).

In the VDP classification in the year 1999 scarcely 70% of the winery areas than First crop classified. They are about 90% with the Riesling, and the red varieties Pinot Noir and Merlot planted. In the basement was invested in new technology such as steel tanks with controllable cooling and traditional wooden barrels with 1,200 liters (piece barrel) volume. One is convinced that the aging in the Rheingau with a long tradition in these barrels is ideally suited for particularly long-lived wines. A large collection of wine rarities up to the year 1958 often scores high-caliber Auctions high prices. Every year around 300,000 bottles of wine are produced. The winery is a member of VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter).
