1999 Spätburgunder trocken -C- ***, Baden, Germany

Matt ruby to garnet red, slightly lighter on the rim. Firm aroma of cherries and black berries with dark, roasted spicy notes. Quite juicy fruit, dominated by oak aromas, more roasted character, medium-grained tannins, persistent on the palate, quite powerful, but again strongly dominated by wood, smoky and roasted notes on finish, some underlying plum aromas. Here some really good grape material has been smothered in wood.
