The estate is located in the municipality of Riol (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region Moselle
, It is managed by master winemaker Franz-Peter Schmitz. The vineyards cover eight hectares of vineyards in the locations Maximiner Herrenberg
(Longuich), the eponymous Römerberg (Riol), as well as Blattenberg and Zellerberg (Mehring). They are planted with the two white varieties Riesling and Müller-Thurgau, as well as the two red varieties Frühburgunder and Spätburgunder. Viticulture close to nature is practiced. While the dry to fruity sweet Rieslings are aged in stainless steel, the red wines and the noble sweet Rieslings mature in large wooden barrels and sometimes also in oak barrels. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and brandies are also produced.
