The estate is located in the municipality Wehlen, district of Bernkastel-Kues (Area Middle Mosel) in the German growing area Moselle, It is the trunk of the now divided possessions of the family Prüm, It was founded by Sebastian Alois Prüm (1794-1871). After the death of his son Matthias (1835-1890), the estate was divided in 1911 among his children. The named after the founder Sebastian Alois (1877-1959) got one of the largest parts. In 1971, the estate was taken over by his grandson Raimund Prüm aka "Roter Prüm". It was divided in 1964 into six parts, but now with the affiliation of Wehlener and Graacher vineyards of the winery Jos. Christoffel jr. again largely merged. Attached is a guest house. Daughter Saskia Andrea Prüm was after several years of wandering in many winegrowing regions of the world and studying in Geisenheim As a certified viticulture engineer in 2005 joined the winery and took over in 2017, the responsibility for the good. She is the first female owner of the family winery. Their initials are also the same as the founder's name of the winery.

The vineyards cover 15 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers Bratenhöfchen. dig, Johannisbrünnchen, Lay and Matheisbildchen (Bernkastel), Domprobst and Heaven (Graach), Schlossberg (Sommerau), sundial (Wehlen), as well Herrenberg and podium (Earth). The famous sundial in the eponymous location in Wehlen was built in 1842 by Jodocus Prüm (1807-1876) built. From here come the best wines from part ungrafted Vines. The area around the sundial is maintained as a museum vineyard, because here are the oldest vines that go back to the year 1905.

The wines are mostly spontaneous fermented. They ripen in steel tanks or in Mosel-Fudern. On sweet reserves, aroma-promoting pure yeasts and chemical deacidification is waived. The wines with storage and aging potential are with natural cork, the young to be consumed with wines screw cap locked. They are in three stages VDP classification model produced and marketed with the historic winery label.
