The "Salzl Seewinkelhof" winery is located in the municipality of Illmitz in the Burgenland wine-growing region Lake Neusiedl
(Austria). The Salzl family, which is steeped in tradition, started wine-growing in 1840. A pension is connected. The family business has been run by Josef Salzl since 1985, concentrating on red wines and starting to expand in barriques in 1990. Son Christoph is a graduate of the commercial academy for viticulture and agricultural management and responsible for sales and cellar work. Three generations work in the company. In 2009, a new winery, both technically and architecturally exceptional, was put into operation in the middle of the vineyards, as indicated by the address "Between the Vines".
The company's own vineyards cover 20 hectares in the Lüss, Martenhof, Römerstein and Sandriegel vineyards. Grapes are delivered by contract winemakers with a total of 60 hectares. 75% of the red varieties Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Blaufränkisch
and Syrah as well as 25% of the white varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Bouvier and Seedling 88 are processed. Selective harvesting processes only healthy, fully ripe grapes.
The white wines and certain red wines are classically aged in steel tanks. Special red wines mature in new barriques for different lengths of up to 24 months. The wide range of products includes red wine Lake Neusiedl DAC
(Zweigelt), the white wine "New Style" (Chardonnay), and the two red wine cuvées "Pannoterra" (Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) and "3-5-8 Premium" (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon). In years that are suitable for the weather, sweet wines such as Beerenauslesen
vinified. It will also be a Frizzante
(Sparkling wine) produced. Around a third of the production is exported to 17 countries.
